Edit:  Man...the Boondocks has greatly exceeded my expectations.

"You feedin' that hoe...what part of the game is that!!!"

"I'm paying...so that makes her a hoe"

"We gon' have brothers and sisters that's half hoe!!!"

This is starting to fill the void in my heart left by the Chappelle Show.  Ok, I'm done.

HVT5ECK-LS

I got a new couch!!!  Kinda fly...right?  I like it.

Kentucky doesn't suck...but I'm still over 90% sure I'm leaving at the end of my contract (next August).

Definitely miss teaching the kids.

Just had a root canal.

Hope to be back in the D for Thanksgiving, but I don't know if that'll happen.

yo...it's been like forever right?!

Negro outta context
Ok...what does the word great mean?
"I went to New Orleans and saw people's lives ruined...yeah, it was great."
Now what does great mean?  Even though you know beyond a shadow of a doubt what great means...in a given context you'd assume great COULDN'T POSSIBLY mean "great" because it clearly doesn't fit in that context.  Clear enough...right?  So anyway, I'm in the bathroom at work and I run into this older white dude...who starts asking questions cuz I'm clearly new.  Anyway, when I get around to telling him what I do and who I work with I notice him do a mental double take...like "word?  you're on that squad?  doing that?"  So anyway, I mention that I just moved to Louisville and he's like..."Oh...so you're from Banglore?" (note: Banglore is a city in India that's an emerging Silicon valley...to give you some context)
Arooo?!  Nah...I'm from Detroit homie. (didn't say homie)

My Analysis:  I am brown...but I think you could show a million random white americans (even GE employees for that matter...i say that cuz they employ mad people from India) any one of my pictures and I seriously doubt any of them would think I was from India.  But put a caption on that picture that says: "Software Engineer - Burgundy Team" (w/o going into details...this team is a squad of bosses from other software development teams around GE brought together to work on a special project directly for the CEO and CIO and me...and I don't mean bosses in the way the Black people mean it, but I mean bosses like an actual boss.  It's more meaningful that way, I think) and they may tend to say "Ooooooooooh, I get it now!  He's from India...of course".  The messed up part about this is that I can't hold that against him one little bit.  Most of the things that we know we've discerned using context clues.  Nobody explicitly told you the meaning of 98% of the words you know...you observed people more versed than you use the language and from the patterns you observed you figured out what words go where...that is you learned their proper context and regarded them accordingly from that point forward.  So, I've been in the software game for a good minute (since I was 19 @ Motorola) and I've NEVER worked with or seen a black person besides myself doing serious software engineering.  It was the same way in school for the most part and then I think about the math class I taught last year...my kids had all the talent in the world but....long story short, it's clear (to me at least) our culture has a self image problem and a warped paradigm of success but i ain't mean to get into all that right now.  I was just saying I thought it was crazy and sad that a young black man/woman is so out of context in a highly scientific/technical profession that it was actually reasonable to assume that I was from India.  Just reminding me that I gotta do the professor thing...gotta raise the standard man.

Dang...i had a lot more stuff to tell y'all but I got off on a tangent so I'll get back later.

P.S. - 2.5 cool points for pointing out the movie reference/quote.

EDIT: Every thing going according to plan so far...I'm on the net with cable before 11am.
Now, I gotta get up and on the road to Detroit.   END EDIT

Well, I'll be back in the D tomorrow to take a nap...literally.  I'm taking the day off tomorrow so here's the plan:

Cable/Internet hook-up: sometime btwn. 8 and 11:30am

Drive to Detroit: Immediately after I play on the net and watch HDTV for 30 minutes (I might as well just plan for the inevitable, right?)

Hopefully (depends on the cable guy) stop at the bank to pick up $$$ for car: Soon as I get to the D.

Drive back to Ohio to Drop off rental & Pick up my truck: Soon as I get my $$$

Just dawned on me that cable might not happen if they get there too late...cuz I won't be able to pay for my car if I don't make it to the bank...priorities suck.

Drive back to Detroit for a power nap.

Drive back to Louisville in time to be at work in the morning.

Sounds impossible but it must happen...I'm praying for the cable/internet guy to come at 8am.

The lady at the Library today just LOVED my driver's license pic...getting my swagger up...she was showing it to other people and stuff...I was like dang lady....keep on doing that....

Ok...since I have real internet access for the first time in a week I feel like I should make a quick little blog.  Can't really tell the whole story but in a nutshell, I've decided to go back to the corporate thing at least for the short term so I took this software engineering gig in Louisville.  After a while, I forgot that people actually want to pay me that grown up money to do what I do so I gotta take it.  Anyways, on the trip down to Louisville the Sunday before last my truck broke down in Bowling Green, Ohio.  I got towed and then the tow truck man raced me to Toledo airport in his whip so that I could rent a car to go down to Louisville in (5 more hours South) while he fixed the truck...supposedly a 2 day turn-a-round.  Well, I'm still in the rental $$$...the truck just got finished yesterday...I gotta pay $2000 cash to get it back...just paid security deposit and first month's rent on the new crib...and consequently after leaving my job where I make more money than I ever have in my life I spent 2 minutes decided whether or not I could spare the extra $1 to get two sandwiches at Arby's for $3 as opposed to a couple double cheeseburgers off the dollar menu at McDonald's.  I got the cheeseburgers.

The crib is nice though and the job is pretty straight too...I seriously doubt I'll stay out here beyond a year but it should be ok even though I still know NO ONE.  Low key, I can already see that it's good for me to be out of the D though...I can already see the me coming out of Detroit mode (long story).  Anyways...holla at me.  one.
